It was suggested that I do a list of my favorite non-romantic relationships on Grey's Anatomy. And so I did that. I love Grey's Anatomy! But since I am more in an Office mood today, I decided to do a list of twice as many of my favorite non-romantic relationships on The Office. Now, "non-romantic relationship" doesn't necessarily mean "friendship." It's more like a recurring interaction between two people. Some of the relationships on these lists are friendships, but several are not. You'll see what I mean. Here we go! Grey's first.
Top 5 Non-Romantic Relationships on Grey's Anatomy:
5. Preston Burke and George O'Malley - This is before Burke left, obviously. But George was his guy! I liked the episode when George got to do a solo heart surgery on a gunshot wound victim in the elevator. That was awesome. And I liked that one time that Burke and George were laughing together in the waiting room after a patient had gotten up and walked out laughing after his wife survived catching on fire during another heart surgery. Great stuff.
4. Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang - They've been through some crazy stuff together, boyfriends-wise. But they're each other's people, you know? The scene where Meredith cut Cristina out of the wedding dress in the season 3 finale is one of the best scenes ever.
3. Derek Shephard and Mark Sloan - I am glad these two are friends again. I haven't seen a lot of stuff that went down in season three between them, but their friendship in the last new episode was awesome. They're both hotties, anyway.
2. George O'Malley and Izzie Stevens - This is before they got into a chemistry-less romance that should have been awesome but it's not ... their friendship is/was awesome. I don't know what else to say. These two are just awesome together no matter what ... well, except in bed. But that's their problem.
1. Miranda Bailey and George O'Malley - Yay! The most notable times these two have been awesome together ... let's see, there was when George was all happy that Bailey was back at the hospital and he hugged her, but then her water broke all over his shoes. That was hilarious. And then there was the actual birth of Bailey's baby, with George's inspirational speech before the birth to his helpfulness (and hilarity) during the birth. And then there was last night, when George talked some sense into the slightly annoying teenager-ish Dr. Bailey.
Top 10 Non-Romantic Relationships on The Office:
10. Pam Beesly and Angela Martin - This goes equally for when Angela is bitchy and for when she is friendly. For example, when Angela said that she doesn't gamble, Pam said that by saying that Angela was gambling that Pam wouldn't smack her. Awesome, right! And then I thought it was sweet for a while when Angela took Pam out for coffee because she was happy that Dwight (Kurt) took the important thing to Corporate for her (Noelle). It's a strange relationship, but great.
9. Jim Halpert and Kelly Kapoor - Generally, I don't like Kelly, but she's a good character. You know what I mean? She's funny ... sometimes ... anyway, this is a strange relationship. Jim is obviously annoyed by Kelly's ... wordiness. Highlights in this relationship include the "conversation" between the two after Pam had jinxed Jim (the vending machine was out of Coke! That's perfect!) and Kelly's recap about what went on in her life while Jim was working at Stamford (Brangelina and TomKat's babies).
8. Ryan Howard and Stanley Hudson - There's not much to this relationship, but I remember a couple of priceless moments between these two. There was the time Stanley fussed at Ryan for flirting with his daughter. Then there was the time Ryan went on a sales call with Stanley ("All you could say was 'Hi! Hi! Hi!' You sounded like my niece - and she's only six months old!" or something like that. Hilarious!).
7. Toby Flenderson and Michael Scott - What did Toby ever do to Michael? Haha. I guess we'll never know. But for whatever reason, Michael hates Toby. It makes for some of the funniest moments in the show. "This is an environment of welcoming and you should just get the hell outta here." I love it! There was a part in the newest episode where Michael pushed Toby's entire lunch tray off the table. Oops, sorry if I spoiled it for anybody. That's not that big a deal, though.
6. Ryan Howard and Michael Scott - Does Michael want to be with Ryan or just be Ryan? I don't know. Whatever the case, Michael thinks Ryan is hot. Hott, actually. And it's really really really funny. There's a part in the new episode (turn away now if you don't want any more information about it) where Michael says Ryan is just as hot as Jan, but in a different way. SO FUNNY.
5. Jim Halpert and Michael Scott - My two favorite characters! Why aren't they #1, though? You'll see. (This is a rating of relationships, not characters!) Anyway, I do love the relationship between these two guys. They've had a couple of nice moments together, you know, where one will give advice to the other ... such as their conversation about Pam on the Booze Cruise or their conversation about rebounds on Benihana Christmas. And then there's the conversation they had at the end of Survivor Man, which was amazing!
4. Dwight Schrute and Michael Scott - Dwight idolizes Michael, even though Michael isn't so nice to him all the time. I love it when Michael tells Dwight to "Shhhhh ... shut ... it." That makes me laugh hysterically every time. And the scene in The Coup when Dwight begs for Michael's forgiveness ("I'll do your laundry!" "I have a laundry machine!") was priceless. But they are friends. And it's awesome.
3. Jim Halpert and Dwight Schrute - These two aren't really friends, haha. But they do have a relationship. All of the pranks Jim has pulled on Dwight ... just great stuff, right? That totally rhymed ... anyway, I think the relationship between these two guys is one of the best things about this show. A very funny part that was not one of the countless pranks Jim has played was when Dwight fake cried about Jim transferring to Stamford. If I started talking about my favorite pranks, I'd be here all night.
2. Pam Beesly and Michael Scott - This is a great relationship. Whether it's Michael wanting Pam to rub butter on his burnt foot or Michael wanting to bathe with Pam or Michael lying on the floor next to Pam's desk or Pam hugging Michael when he was so nice to her at her art show ("Do you have something in your pocket?" Haha), it's just awesome. Pam knows how to deal with Michael's craziness. They are both just awesome people.
1. Pam Beesly and Jim Halpert - Duh. Haha. This is, of course, before they started their awesome romantic relationship (Pam referring to Jim as her boyfriend in the most recent episode still made me giddy, teehee). But for the first three seasons, these two as best friends would be my favorite non-romantic Office relationship. Okay, so they had chemistry as if it was a romantic relationship, there's no doubt about that, but this totally counts for this list! For any Office fan, this one's pretty self explanatory. If I had to go into detail, again, I'd be here all night. Just deal with it like this: They're my favorite!
